Thank you for your interest in a research study for adults who are overweight. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how a weight loss program incorporating executive functioning skills (mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully) works.

In order to determine your eligibility for this study, you will complete an online screen and a phone screen. Following these, if you remain eligible you will be invited to an orientation either in person at the Center for Healthy Eating and Activity Research (CHEAR) or remotely via a password-protected ZOOM meeting to learn about the study and ask questions about your participation. If you choose to provide signed or verbal consent to the program you will then complete an assessment (approximately 4 hours) either in-person or remotely via a password-protected ZOOM meeting. If you qualify, you will be invited to a 20-week group program. You will be assigned to 1 of 2 treatments. Group sessions will be held via password-protected ZOOM meetings. You will attend additional assessment visits halfway through the group program, after the program finishes, and six months after the program finishes. Assessments include completing surveys, tasks, interviews and height and weight measurements. Assessment visits will be held remotely over password-protected ZOOM meetings or in person at CHEAR.

There may or may not be any direct benefit to you from participating in the study. Participating in this study may help you eat healthier and lose weight; however, there is no guarantee that these changes will occur as a result of participating in this program.

Participation in this study is voluntary. If you decide to participate, then you are free to not answer any question or withdraw at any time without penalty.
